Finance Committee approves stabilization fund transfers from Free Cash.

Finance Committee · Meeting of February 18, 2026

Chesterfield Finance Committee approves stabilization fund transfers from Free Cash for fiscal 2027. The committee voted unanimously to fund the School Maintenance Stabilization Fund ($20,000) and Fire Truck Stabilization Fund ($40,000) from Free Cash rather than the operating budget, and set the Capital Projects Stabilization Fund at $400,000. Hampshire Regional School District's preliminary budget showed a 5.66 percent increase; Chesterfield's assessment jumped to $621,345, a $131,679 increase reflecting higher enrollment.

New Hingham School District's FY 2027 budget indicates a 7.3 percent increase in town assessments, driven by enrollment growth, 39 percent health insurance premiums, and 3.5 percent salary increases. Select Board Liaison Trish Colson-Montgomery agreed to advocate to the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for equitable Chapter 70 and SIMS funding for students shared between towns.
