Board of Health adopts food waste composting at transfer station.

CHESTERFIELD — The Chesterfield Board of Health unanimously approved food waste composting at the transfer station beginning in July 2026. John Pitroff of Second Chance Composting presented the program, which will place two bins at the facility for $35 and $10, projecting a 25 to 50 percent refuse diversion rate depending on resident engagement. The board discussed infrastructure needs including repairs to the Hazardous Waste shed and possible use of Recreation, Department, and Parks funds to accommodate collection boxes and wildlife protection.
Chair John Chandler and member Peg Whalen will present the board's FY27 budget request, which seeks to increase transfer station attendant hours from 5 to 7 per week, to the Finance Committee on March 11.
